Hi, I’m AmirHesam.
I’m a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) and QA engineer, and I like building useful things on small, inexpensive hardware. AmirHesamTech is where I document those builds — home servers, automations, testing projects and the tools I use every day — so you can copy what works and skip what didn’t.
What I work on
- Raspberry Pi projects. A Plex media server and network storage, a private “Google Drive” for my files, and this website, which runs on a Raspberry Pi 4 at home.
- A homelab. A mini server running several virtual servers on Proxmox, with Docker managed through Portainer and kept up to date by Watchtower.
- Linux. Installing and running different distributions on old laptops, Raspberry Pis and spare PCs — and the routine maintenance that keeps them healthy.
- Automation. n8n workflows, CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, and Money Guild AI, the Python pipeline I wrote to draft the guides on this blog.
- Testing and development. Open-source practice projects on GitHub for testers and developers: a Java test framework starter (Selenium, Cucumber, REST Assured), API testing with Postman in CI, SQL practice labs and more.
- Chatbots. I built one step by step in a three-part TikTok series, and H3samBot — a photo and IT help bot that runs entirely in the browser — is on GitHub.
- Tech tips. Phone tricks, free games worth trying and gear I like, on TikTok and Instagram as @techwithamirh3sam.
- Photography. I also run AHB Visuals, my photography site.
Right now I’m building CodeQuest, a game that teaches coding as you play, a calculator app, and LifeHub: DailyMatrix — one everyday app with a habit tracker, money tools for bills, tax, tips and discounts, meal ideas, to-dos and dates, a subscription tracker, and sounds for sleep, breathing and focus. They’re private on GitHub while I finish them and will launch here soon.
How this site runs
amirhesamtech.com is self-hosted on a Raspberry Pi 4 with 8 GB of memory, sitting in my home. It runs WordPress on Apache with MariaDB and Redis, and it reaches the internet through a Cloudflare Tunnel, so I don’t have to open ports on my home router for it. A watchdog checks the site every five minutes and restarts anything that has stopped, and a full backup goes to a USB drive every Sunday.
Running a public website on a computer the size of a deck of cards has taught me a lot about Linux, caching and security — including a few mistakes I’d rather you didn’t repeat. I’m writing those lessons up as guides here.
How the guides are made
The guides on the blog are drafted with AI writing tools by Money Guild AI, the pipeline I built. Each draft is checked automatically — no invented statistics, prices, studies or results, working links to related guides, a clear structure — and nothing is published until I approve it.
The older guides were revised in September 2026: unsupported numbers were removed and key facts were re-checked against the providers’ own pages. When I’ve followed the steps in a guide myself, the article says so.
Prices and features change often, so always confirm the details on the provider’s own site — and if you spot a mistake, tell me and I’ll correct it.
